As the number of Chinese believers explodes, so too does the need for the Scriptures. This vibrant church desperately needs access to God’s Word so it can establish deep roots with which to stand firm and flourish.
Many poorer believers in China’s rural areas simply cannot afford even the cheapest Bible. So scarce is God’s precious Word that any one Bible distributed may eventually be used by hundreds of people. Some churches don’t even have one Bible for their entire congregation.
Bible Society NSW and a team travelled to China in late 2008 with a team of Australians to distribute Bibles to needy rural churches in four provinces. All the Bibles had been printed by the Amity Printing Company.

Geoff and Tue Nghi Au
My name is Tue Nghi. Geoff and our two girls, Rebekah (11) and Phoebe (8) joined the trip as part of a family holiday. We were blessed by this joyful experience of seeing God's work in China. The best part of the trip was going to the villages and visiting the churches. Without fail, we were welcomed in every church with fanfare, honour and great hospitality. Two such acts come to mind. The first is the 23 course banquet cooked by the local members of a church in the outskirts of Nanjing. The other was when we were visiting a literacy class sponsored by the Bible Society in a very poor village. A man came with several cartons of cold tea to give out to us. Mr Zhou (one of the officials) informed us that it would have been a significant portion of this man's weekly wage to buy the drinks for us. I felt really touched. The other thing that really struck us was the way people rushed to receive bibles from us. Having seen such hunger and love for the word of God in China, I came home with renewed desire to read my bible.

" nothing will be impossible with God. " Luke 1:37
I saw a powerful example of this when visiting a seminary in Zhengzhou .
The principal recounted a story relating to the building of the seminary.
There were inadequate funds and the principal and staff were being followed by the tradesmen [even to the toilet] for fear of not being paid for their work, but amazingly money from an overseas church arrived just in time.
Actually visiting the completed seminary was a powerful physical reminder of the reality of God and his provision for his church despite the odds.

True Joy comes from knowing Christ Phil 4:4
Despite their poverty, persecution & innumerable hardships the believers in China had JOY written across the weathered faces - for them knowing Christ via the reading of the scriptures has made a palpable difference - you could feel and see their joy. Each face was a living reflection of God's love which overcomes any adversity.
My prayer for China is "that they may know Him and the power of his resurrection, and may share in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible they may attain the resurrection from the dead. "

The following is one small effort from my experience. There are so many wonderful memories!
If I didn't own a Bible to read each day, how would I feel?? DEVESTATED!
So I joined the team distributing Bibles to eager Chinese Christians, stepping out in faith, daring to dream that God could use me in a simple way to achieve some mission for Him.
It was such a privilege to share the love of God & to be received with overwhelming generosity & hospitality
To witness one complete Bible coming off the production line at Amity Press every SECOND was a miracle!
Language is no barrier when sharing Christian love!
I realise how busy you are & pray for continued success at Bible Society NSW.

God has transformed the Chinese people.
Miracles are evident.
The people were on fire for Jesus and enthusiastically learning and spreading the word of Jesus and His love to others.
We could see and feel Jesus was inside the hearts of the Chinese people.
It didn’t matter that they had basic concrete Churches with pedal organs, or that they were hard working farmers with very little, they had so much more than we have in our abundance.
They had Jesus in their hearts.
China will be saved.
The west should take their example and get back to basics and be on fire for Jesus.

It was not an easy decision to go but I eventually knew that I had to be obedient to the Lord and step by step it all happened!
Now it is nearly 5 months since the trip and I look back with a thankful heart that I had the privelege to go.
To see all the Bibles in production at huge Amity press factory and then be able to travel out to the villages and help distribute them, gave us all a sense of partnership with the Christians in China that enables me to pray and support them more fully.
We formed bonds with our fellow travelers, were blessed by the Lord in seeing the earnestness and joy on the faces of the Chinese Christians in China and we were absolutely thrilled when our tour guide in the Hennen Province became a Christian!
It was good to see the many sides of China and to be able to understand the country and the people just a little better.
I understand better both the difficulties that have existed in the past and the way the Christians are now working with the Government to
open China up to a Christianity more.
I am both humbled and challenged by the experience and would like to see many more Christians from the west travel and see God's work in action!
