The need
There are around one million public school students in NSW and WA, and a large proportion of them participate in Special Religious Education classes (in NSW) or Christian Religious Education (in WA). Most of these young people never visit a church, and many of them and their families have never seen a Bible, let alone read one.
While the door to public schools remains open, Bible Society is making the most of the extraordinary opportunity School Scripture provides to give Aussie kids a personal encounter with God’s Word.
Making a difference
Your support will allow us to reach out to school children in these ways.
Bible distribution
We want to give every child attending Scripture classes a Bible of their own. Scripture teachers can then guide children through the Bible, encouraging them to read it for themselves and at home with their families. (Class Sets are available as texts for teachers in WA).
Partnering with Jesus Racing (NSW only)
The Supercar, Ute and AV are the draw-card in seminars that challenge high school students to rethink who Jesus is and what he has to do with their lives. We also distribute Gospels so they can discover more about Jesus for themselves.
Children’s shows (NSW only)
Rick George and partners are taking their motivating, fun-filled presentation with a powerful message about God’s Word into schools, using the opportunity to distribute Bibles and Memory Verse Calendars.
Changed lives
“I shared with my Year 6 class at Glenorie that I’d prayed for the Lord to show me where the money would come from to buy Bibles. Maybe my husband would get a little extra work, or a bill might be less? But I’d rung Bible Society, hoping simply to borrow a few Bibles to whet their appetite for the Word, and was told we could have enough for everyone to have their very own! Reaching the goal
• Distributing 70,000 Bibles and 20,000 Bible memory verse calendars
• Interactive children’s show in 50 NSW public schools
